ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Shedd–Porter Memorial Library provides access to information, programming and other library services that promote the lifelong enjoyment of reading and learning, for the residents of Alstead and Langdon. People of all ages are encouraged to visit the library. The Trustees and Staff of the library seek to provide a comfortable and safe environment for all users of the library, and to be stewards of this historic structure and its contents (September 2019).
Shedd-Porter Memorial Library, located in Alstead, New Hampshire, was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Boston architects, William H. McLean and Albert H. Wright. It was built in 1910 as a gift from John Graves Shedd and Mary Roenna Porter in memory of their parents.

The library is closed on the following holidays:
New Year’s Day
(the library closes for the New Year’s holiday at 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve)
Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving
(the library closes for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday at 3 pm)
(the library closes for the Christmas holiday at 3 pm on Christmas Eve)
The library is closed when the Alstead public schools are closed. During weekends and school vacations, closings due to inclement weather will be announced on WMUR TV.
