ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Mission Statement
The Shedd–Porter Memorial Library provides access to information, programming and other library services that promote the lifelong enjoyment of reading and learning, for the residents of Alstead and Langdon. People of all ages are encouraged to visit the library. The Trustees and Staff of the library seek to provide a comfortable and safe environment for all users of the library, and to be stewards of this historic structure and its contents (September 2019).
History
Shedd-Porter Memorial Library, located in Alstead, New Hampshire, was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Boston architects, William H. McLean and Albert H. Wright. It was built in 1910 as a gift from John Graves Shedd and Mary Roenna Porter in memory of their parents.

Tuesday 2 - 5 pm
Wednesday 11 am – 5 pm
Thursday 11 am – 7 pm
Friday 11 am – 5 pm
Saturday 9 am – noon
Inclement Weather:
The library typically closes when the Alstead public schools are following a full, in school learning schedule and are closed due to inclement weather. When Alstead schools are in remote or hybrid learning modes, inclement weather closings and schedule changes for the library will be decided on a case-to-case basis and patrons should closely monitor our webpage and social media postings. During weekends and school vacations, closings due to inclement weather will also be announced on WMUR TV.
The library is closed on the following holidays:

New Year’s Day
The library closes for the New Year’s holiday at 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. -
July 4th

Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving
The library closes for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday at 3 PM. -
Christmas Day
The library closes for the Christmas holiday at 3 PM on Christmas Eve.
