NH singer/storyteller Steve Blunt will appear at Shedd-Porter Memorial Library on Friday, June 28th at 1p.m. The performance will mark the start of the summer reading program, “Dig into Reading.” It will include songs & stories with an underground theme: volcanoes, dinosaurs, etc. Blunt teaches and performs at schools, libraries, and concert venues throughout the region, specializing in funny, original kids’ music–with a rockin‘ twist. His CD’s, Hang On, Henry! (2002) and Outta School! (2007), are Parents’ Choice “Approved” Award Winners. This library event offers fun, upbeat musical entertainment for families with children of all ages. For details, contact the library at 835-6661. More information is available at www.steveblunt.com.
You’ve got to see it to believe it! We asked Eleanor Elbers and kids from her open doors program to help us make a mural celebrating this summer’s reading program, Dig into Reading! Eleanor took the challenge and ran with it. She started the process at Orchard Hill with her after school students. They brainstormed, painted, designed and began the mural at The Orchard School. They then brought it to the library for a mural making workshop with our story time kiddos. The resulting mural represents a colorful collaboration between our groups. I’m so very grateful to Eleanor, Eliza, Liv and the Open Doors Gang for the energy, creativity, thought, enthusiasm and FUN they brought to the library on a rainy afternoon! WOW!
