New Fiction Titles for April

Fans of Homer’s Iliad will want to pick up The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.  It’s a novel which focuses on the relationship between Patroclus & Achilles, following the legendary friendship from childhood through the Trojan War.
Another title worth watching is Carol Anshaw’s Carry the One, a novel destined to be a favorite of book groups in the coming year.

Downton Abbey Comes to Alstead!

For those not in the know, Shedd-Porter has a selection of DVDs and VHS tapes available for checkout.  New this month, we’ve added both Season One and Season Two of the BBC hit show, Downton Abbey.  Come check it out!

Local Interest Acquisitions

This month, patrons will find several items of  local interest.  We’ve addedTimber Framing Fundamentals, a beautiful book produced by Alstead’s own Timber Framers Guild.

We’re pleased to have also added several works by local author and musician, Randy MillerNew England Fiddler’s Repertoire, his classic work on Contra Music, his  2011 book, Oberlin Fever, which relates the story of Oberlin College’s championship basketball season, and Randy’s latest cd, Farewell to Ireland.
